Please get in touch with me. tchrisman@marshfieldkennel.com I have to have some way of knowing who is interested. The price is not cheap, but is fair. The price is in-line with what other folks charge for GSP puppies from highly qualified parents and exceptional pedigrees. This isn’t a business for me and I don’t make money doing it. Go check "Next Day Pets" for some prices. Every time I check, there are pups available for more money than ours, of lesser quality. A cheap puppy over time is just as costly as an expensive one (about $10,000). In fact, you'll spend more than the purchase price of most puppies on vet bills, food, dog toys, new shoes and carpet cleaner over the first year. If the puppy is sickly due to poor breeding, or difficult to train, you can spend many, many times the puppy's price and your valuable time to try to fix the problem. "Most of us are incredible cheapskates when it comes to buying a dog, and we get just about what we pay for and what we deserve. And when you pause to figure out the economics of owning a dog--which few dog owners seem to do--it is obviously downright silly to be bargain hunting. "So now we come to secret number two, another but very important truth: A cheap dog is the most expensive in the long run. [emphasis original] "The only thing worse than a bargain dog is a gift dog." -James Lamb Free, Training Your Retriever, 1949 Q: What is the deposit for? A: The deposit is there to protect you from a few of things. First it establishes that we are selling you a puppy. My brother actually was told he was "on the list as soon as the next litter comes." He called six months later to find out the breeder had puppies, found owners for them other than him, and they were going home this weekend. He'd been waiting with this breeder for over a year. It also establishes a firm pick order. You will select your pup in the order that the deposits are sent. Your deposit also prevents me from selling your dog to someone else for a higher price. I have been offered lots of money for specific pups. With your deposit, I won't sell your pup to someone else. It protects me from reserving a pup for you and you never picking it up. There are a lot of reasons for it, but one common one is a husband orders the pup, and the wife doesn't know. I may have lost the opportunity to sell that pup to someone who wanted it because you had a reservation and failed to live up to your end of the bargain. In that case, your deposit helps pay for the additional costs associated with keeping and selling that pup. If I you wish a female pup, and I don't produce one for you, you have two options. First, I can give you your money back. Or, if you like, you can "let it ride" for the next available litter. In addition to getting a very high selection, you will "lock in" the price and not be subject to our typical annual increases. |
